Without Brittany, there would be no Textile Indie.
She’s the chief creator and the face of our YouTube channel.
Brittany’s been immersed in the fiber arts world since she was 6 years old and has never met a textile skill she didn’t want to try.
After graduating college with a degree in fashion and business, I (Brittany) decided it was time to create something that incorporated all the skills that I have loved learning. I am a Textile Indie.
I have always been fascinated by textiles, fiber, sewing, and basketry. As a child, my favorite thing to do was to make things. I was the queen of bags and containers. It’s funny how I ended up becoming a basketmaker.
When I was sixteen, I had an amazing opportunity to design and coordinate the costumes for a production of a Christmas Madrigal play at a local theatre.
The play incorporated a king and queen and their court of six lords and ladies, a cast of “players” to perform for them, and a number of costumed servers to serve a multi-course dinner to the audience. Set in the Renaissance era, it was a costumer’s dream. I went on to costume multiple other productions with this theatre group until I left for University.
I attended Central Washington University and studied Fashion and Business. My official degree is titled “Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising”. Of all things, it’s a Bachelor of Science. I would never have guessed science anything would be connected to my name.
I have wonderful parents and siblings and an amazing husband. I am blessed to live in the great Pacific Northwest. Besides everything fiber and textile-related, I love backpacking, flowers, trying new recipes, learning to live more naturally, and a good iced tea with no sugar.
