The Ultimate Basket Book: A Cornucopia of Popular Designs to Make

    by: Lyn Siler

Covers the basic techniques of basket making with helpful diagrams and sketches to give visual aid. I enjoyed reading through this book because it gave a broad overview of basket weaving techniques. Then it applied all the techniques to a specific project. I have not made all of the baskets in this book, but there are several weaving patterns that I am inspired to try including a plaited basket and several Cherokee inspired designs that create geometric shapes on the exterior of the basket. The instructions for each of the projects may be challenging for a beginning weaver because it is all in description format with a handful of diagrams for added help. Once basic techniques are learned though this would be a fun book to work through. I definitely suggest looking through this book whatever your weaving level because there is so much valuable information and inspiration within it.

Baskets: A Book for Makers and Collectors

    By: Billie Ruth Sudduth

This book has a wonderful portfolio of artistic baskets made by basket weaving artists. The array of styles, textures, and materials used is fascinating. This is a great book for the basket enthusiast. While I usually make baskets in order to put them to work, the art pieces were intriguing because of the use of techniques, non-traditional materials, and patterns and colors. One of the pieces I enjoyed the most is a basket woven from a chimney vessel with copper and bronze that has been finished to have a variegated surface. Along with all of the collection pieces, there are instructions and information for making your own baskets. This is a great compilation of inspiration with a basket weaving education included.

    Contemporary Crafts: Basket Weaving

    by: Olivia Elton Barratt

This book is all about making baskets from the materials found in nature. Using branches, grasses, and reed to create useful and decorative baskets. I have never done this type of weaving, but the beauty of putting things discovered in the woods into a basket gives me the desire and inspiration to pursue these types of basket techniques in the future.

    Basketry: 17 Great Weekend Projects

    by: BJ Crawford

This is a great beginner’s basket weaving book. The descriptions and photos included in each project are extremely helpful for understanding each step and how to do all the techniques needed. This is the book that I worked through when I started weaving baskets on my own. I’ve made several of the baskets in this book and all of them were fun to make and satisfying when I finished.
