    Sewing

You are here: Home / Archives for Sewing

Textile Indie’s sewing related articles, tutorials, techniques, and projects. Great for beginner sewers and those with intermediate to advanced experience.

Access to great sewing resources for fabric, notions, tools, patterns, and more.

Tutorials and techniques explained for use in garment construction, bag design, wedding dress creation, and other sewing projects.

This is a skill that can be combined with many other textile and fiber arts to create a variety of pieces. From garments you wear every day to costumes, cosplay, wedding dresses, bags, home decor, there is an endless list of possibilities for sewing applications.

Like any craft, there is a vast world of techniques and skills. Each project will require a different set of skills and knowledge. Facing each project with a sense of wonder and willingness to try new things will put the sewist in a place to succeed in their creating process. Being okay to make a mistake when making is vital to learning and to getting better.

Textile Indie focuses on techniques and specific applications of skills used in conjunction with other projects. There are many valuable resources online for beginner sewing lessons and those getting started in the world of the sewist. I will direct you to those.

Sewing skills involve learning to control the sewing machine, the types of materials to use for each given project, working with fabric grain and stretch, learning to read patterns and know the terminology, the technical use of pins, scissors, measuring tape, rulers and rotary cutters. There is a lot to learn, but the outcome is fulfilling as you look at a piece that you created yourself.
